Parents/caregivers can attend our baby massage courses whenever they feel comfortable and are able. It is usually suggested babies are aged between 6 weeks and 6 months (or pre-crawling stage) but this is just a suggestion and not a rule!
Classes are held at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre. The centre has ample parking, is a short walk from Wallyford Train Station and is on a number of Lothian bus routes.
Our courses run for 5 weeks at a time with each weekly class lasting 1 hour. The duration of massage time does increase each week as we learn new strokes, however, there is plenty of time for parents to feed, change and comfort their babies throughout the class - we take everything at baby’s pace.
There is also time to enjoy some refreshments before heading home (this is included in the cost of the course).
All parents must bring a towel (to lie their baby down on), a change of nappy and, if babies are bottle-fed, an additional bottle is recommended to keep them hydrated.
It is also recommended parents wear comfortable clothing, minimal jewellery and have short nails (where possible). Babies can wear whatever they want!
At the beginning of each course, a bottle of grapeseed oil is provided to every parent to bring along to each session. Grapeseed oil is very light in texture, has virtually no odour, and is easily absorbed into baby's skin.
If you would like to bring along your own oil (or any cream prescribed by a doctor), that is perfectly fine. It is best to stay away from mass produced oils that are often petroleum based and have added perfume.
